about

CREATIVE MUSIC ALLIANCE

Inspiration for this recording resulted from a desire to make a meaningful contribution to the relief effort for those facing the ravages of the December 26, 2004 tsunami originating off the west coast of Sumatra in the Indian Ocean. Indonesia, Sri Lanka, Thailand, Maldives, Somalia, Seychelles, Myanmar, Tanzania, Bangladesh and Kenya were all affected to varying degrees, resulting in 167,962 confirmed deaths, 128, 329 missing, and above 1 million displaced, according to reports as of March 18, 2005.
Opportunity for that contribution came through a collective recording effort launched by Mamaniji Azanyah (bassist/composer/arranger/producer) that included a circle of musicians active in the creative music scene in Atlanta, GA, who had come into association via Julie Dexter's Ketch-A-Vibe Tea Room. As a result 18 musicians agreed to donate their time, energy and abilities to the Tsunami Project: Sky In The Morning, creating an artistic soundtrack to event and serving as a fundraising project via album sales.
